I had laid out my uniform the night before, nice and neatly, and shined my badge and shoes profusely. I wanted to make a good impression on the first day, especially since some animals weren't exactly…. And, of course, I wanted to impress Judy. Looking at myself in the mirror, I admired my clean, pristine police uniform, and my gleaming ZPD badge. Puffing my chest out slightly, I had to admit, I preferred this look over my green Hawaiian shirt.

Nick opened his eyes to the beautiful city of Zootopia the sun was shining the birds chirping the air carried a slight smell of hazelnut and blueberries… and then he woke up. It was in the papers " mile an hour sloth brought to justice by Judy Hopps and rookie Nick Wilde. Chief Bogo walked into the room to begin the briefing. Where could that dumb fox be… "Hey, Clawhauser have you seen the fox. Judy entered the break room to find the find her partner passed out in one of the chairs next to the coffee machine.
After discovering Nick's reputation as a con artist, having been a pawn in one of his schemes, Judy grows a dislike towards him, and his bitter attitudes towards the world and herself. She takes pleasure in getting her revenge by using his own ego against him and simultaneously blackmailing him into aiding her in the Emmitt Otterton case, showing the two are bitter enemies at the start. Despite her annoyance with his cynicism and wise-cracks, Judy saves Nick's life during their first adventure, and when this is brought up by Nick himself, she simply reasons it to be part of her job as an officer showing that, despite their unfavorable history at the time, she is above treating him recklessly. She also unabashedly commends the fox when his own intelligence greatly assists their case, giving credit where it is due in spite of everything. This is repaid once Nick, after witnessing the bigotry Judy faces at the hands of her "peers", stands up for the rabbit and becomes a willing accomplice in her goal to not only find Otterton, but prove herself to Chief Bogo.
